Where it All Began…

I don’t know what possessed me to take my son to a tea house on his 1st birthday, but that’s exactly what I did. Surprisingly, it went well! Then we had my baby shower there before my daughter was born. I continued to bring my children to tea each year on their birthday and it became a cherished tradition…until I was on my early-morning walk one day and saw that “our” tea house had closed their doors - without warning; not even the chance to go one last time. I cried the whole walk home…

I’ve had this empty feeling about it ever since then, and the seed was planted to someday recreate that glorious tradition!

And now to backtrack a bit... When my kids were growing up, we used to play a game to pass the time in the car. I’d say, “If you were a shoelace factory, what would you call your store?” When they were very young, they’d say something like, “The Shoelace Factory” (hah!) but as they grew a little older, they’d think of more clever names like “Tied Up” or “The Lace Place.” It was fun to see their creativity expand even further as they aged.

So fast-forward to January 2023, the idea of opening a tea house always tucked in the corner of my heart, and one day, the name “By the Teashore” just popped into my head - and I took that as a sign that I was supposed to do this NOW!

It took searching and searching for the right location for two+ years, and amassing thousands of pieces of china - full sets!! - and furniture, vintage chandeliers, vintage mirrors, artwork, etc., etc., and we just found our perfect location in a lovely 1903 house-turned-restaurant right in downtown Half Moon Bay at 724 Main Street!

We’ll be spending the next several weeks painting the outside, painting the inside, getting some cute plants out front, and making maaany other decor decisions!

It will make us so very happy to welcome you By the Teashore to either begin your own traditions, or simply enjoy a warm breakfast or a delightful lunch, and, of course, a spot of tea or coffee.

And remember, Everyone is Welcome By the Teashore!
